Acceptable use

Last updated October 27, 2026

Postbutter helps creators answer the people who reach out to them. These rules keep it that way, keep your Instagram account safe and keep Postbutter available for everyone. They are part of our Terms of Service.

Messages and automations

  • Only message people who contacted you first, the way Postbutter is built to work. Don’t try to send unsolicited or bulk messages, or get around Instagram’s messaging windows or rate limits.
  • Deliver what your automation promises. If a Reel says “comment GUIDE for the guide”, the DM should contain the guide.
  • Make follow gates and giveaways honest: state the rules, pick winners fairly and follow the laws on promotions where you run them.
  • When you collect personal data in a conversation (such as an email address), say what it is for and use it only for that.
  • Don’t pretend to be someone else, and don’t make an AI reply claim to be a person when someone sincerely asks.

Content you may not send or publish

  • Anything illegal, or links to illegal goods or services.
  • Harassment, hate speech, threats, or content that sexualises minors.
  • Scams, phishing, malware, fake giveaways, or misleading health, financial or “get rich” claims.
  • Content that infringes someone else’s copyright, trademark or privacy.
  • Anything that breaks Instagram’s Community Guidelines or Meta’s Platform Terms.

The platform

  • Don’t access Postbutter by automated means other than our features, overload it, probe it for weaknesses without permission, or reverse engineer it. To report a vulnerability, see our Security page.
  • Don’t share accounts beyond the seats in your plan, or resell Postbutter without our written agreement.
  • Don’t use Postbutter to collect data about people who haven’t interacted with you.

What happens if the rules are broken

We may pause an automation, limit messaging, or suspend or close an account, depending on how serious the problem is. Where we reasonably can, we tell you first and give you a chance to fix it. Report abuse to [email protected].
